ABOUT FISH THE WEST

"Mike is a professional fishing guide that specializes in fishing for Salmon and Steelhead on the Kalama, Washougal and the East Fork of the Lewis Rivers. Mike will help you catch more fish!"

Mike West Has over 28 years of professional guiding experience. He was born in Vancouver Washington and spent a great deal of time fishing for both Steelhead and Salmon prior to becoming a guide.

Mike started his guiding carrier on the Kenai river in Alaska in 1987. Back then he traveled back and forth from Kenai Alaska to the mighty Rouge River in Southern Oregon. At that time Mike, guided the Rouge, Chetco, Sixes, and Illinois river's.

1987-1996 Mike moved to the Kenai peninsula and guided the Kenai, Kaselof and Cook Inlet from sleds and drift boats. Mike also holds a 100 Ton inland masters License. But prefers the drift boat.

In 2003 Mike moved back to Washington. He then started a guide business fishing the Kalama, East fork of the Lewis and Washougal river's from a drift boat,  were he had grown up fishing prior to becoming a guide. Mike now lives on the Kalama river. He considers the Kalama to be his home river.

"The kalama is a very consistent river and has a good tolerance for the water height, giving a longer time of opportunity for good fishing between freshets. I learned early on that I had a knack for helping others catch fish and enjoyed it as much as me catching one my self, as time went on I figured I should guide and share this with more people. Guiding is a great job. I love my job."  - Mike West

Mike still guides in Alaska for about 45 days a year during the coho run, in Bristol Bay on the Egegik river at a remote camp. If you are would like more information on his Alaska Trips, Please contact him.
